HP v. Powell Electric
Hewlett Packard hired contractor Powell Electric to install electrical breakers at one of their substations. During the installation, Powell cross wired the breakers and damaged a transformer. Beck Redden partner Troy Ford represented Hewlett Packard in asserting a claim for breach of contract. The jury returned a verdict in favor of Hewlett Packard finding Powell breached the contract. The jury awarded $1,090,112 including attorney's fees. The case was appealed and affirmed and the case subsequently settled on favorable terms.
