Beck Redden Prevails at the Texas Supreme Court in a Significant Case Regarding the Texas Civil Barratry Statute and Extraterritoriality

The Texas Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of Beck Redden clients, Michael A. Pohl and Law Office of Michael Pohl, PLLC (together ‘Pohl’), in a lawsuit regarding the Texas civil barratry statute and its extraterritorial reach. In its majority opinion, the Court held that the statute does not apply to out-of-state conduct and reaffirmed the longstanding presumption against extraterritorial application of Texas laws.
