On Law.com’s Litigation Daily article on June 25, 2026, David Beck discussed the growing risks and responsibilities associated with the use of artificial intelligence in legal practice (highlighted initially in his article in the January/February 2025 issue of The Houston Lawyer).

He stressed that AI is not something lawyers should avoid outright, but it also should not be used without human oversight, secure platforms, and informed client consent. He warned that unverified AI output can create ethics issues, privilege concerns, and malpractice exposure, particularly when lawyers rely on it without checking for hallucinations or protecting confidential information. Mr. Beck also pointed to the rapid rise in AI adoption among Texas attorneys and said the legal profession needs more education, clearer firm policies, and practical guidance on security and billing as AI becomes more common in day-to-day practice.
