Garrett is an experienced trial lawyer with significant wins for both plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes commercial cases across the country, including a $438 million judgment obtained after a federal antitrust trial with Alistair Dawson and Alex Roberts.

Garrett’s first chair trial experience allows him to play a central role in all his cases. Having tried cases with over $100 million in dispute, Garrett has a practiced understanding of how to prepare complex matters with the end in mind, building a clear narrative that will resonate with diverse audiences. By design, Garrett maintains a well-rounded litigation practice. He has represented large corporations in antitrust, securities, non-compete, and other complex commercial disputes. He is repeatedly called on to represent oil and gas companies in a variety of litigation matters, including breach of contract, force majeure, and royalty issues. Garrett also has notable experience representing high net worth individuals in will contest and estate disputes.

After his first jury trial alongside David J. Beck in a securities fraud action in Texas state court, class counsel in the related class action relayed to Mr. Beck that Garrett was a “force of nature at trial,” specifically noting “[t]he impeachment of one fact witness after another” and “the simple narrative, forcing defendants to deal with the ‘mind numbing’ details.” Garrett has since played a central role in numerous other trials, and has delivered opening statement, voir dire, and closing argument as lead counsel. His recent achievements as lead counsel also include a fifteen-minute jury verdict completely in his client’s favor in a Harris County real property dispute.

Garrett’s background equips him to approach his trial work with a competitive edge, good judgment, and a rational perspective that resonates with judges and juries alike. A first-generation college student from a small town in southeast Texas, he understands the importance of hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance. He prioritizes his clients’ needs with the same determined care. Equal to his courtroom acumen is his understanding that sometimes the best result is to broker a business solution that will avoid litigation altogether. Garrett brings this approach to all his clients, from large company general counsel to small business owners.

Garrett has been named a “Rising Star” in Business Ligation by Super Lawyers (2023) and “Ones to Watch” by the Best Lawyers in America (2023). He is also active in the Houston legal community and currently serves as a director of the Texas Young Lawyers Association (“TYLA”) and is on the University of Texas School of Law Houston Young Alumni Steering Committee. Garrett is also a fellow with the Texas Bar Foundation, serves as vice-chair for TYLA’s National Trial Competition Committee and on the State Moot Court Competition Committee, and is a graduate of the State Bar of Texas’ LeadershipSBOT (class of 2021).

Prior to joining Beck Redden, Garrett clerked for the Honorable Alfred H. Bennett of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. During his clerkship, Garrett assisted Judge Bennett in presiding over fourteen federal jury trials.
